Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach Job Description:

The Department of Athletics at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking applicants to fill the position of Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach. This is a 9 month position located on the UAF campus. Salary will be commensurate with experience and includes a benefits package with medical insurance, retirement, and vacation and sick leave.

  • Applicant will assist in coaching, recruiting, counseling, conditioning, and evaluating for the men’s basketball team as directed by the head coach.
  • Utilize coaching and teaching methods to develop student-athlete’s athletic skills and analyze performance of student-athletes.
  • Counsel student-athletes regarding their academic and athletic behaviors.
  • Evaluate opponents and develop game strategies. Evaluate and recruit prospective student-athletes.
  • Comply with all NCAA, conference, and institutional regulations and meet proficiency requirements.
  • Assist with management of camps, clinics, and pre-season training, if applicable.
  • Assist head coach with managing of fundraising activities to subsidize women’s basketball program.
  • Assist with managing of program budget and recommend projections to support sport activities.
  • Break down multiple videos of each opponent to learn what type of offenses and defenses are used.
  • Develop scouting reports per opponent.
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.
– Ability to develop players of all positions.
– Ability to conduct relative conditioning programs.
– Ability to demonstrate basketball skill technique.
– Ability to work with computers, maintain databases, and operate video recording equipment.

– Ability to instruct youth at basketball camps and clinics.
– Ability to identify quality prospective student-athletes.
– Ability to travel to recruiting events for up to two weeks at a time.
– Ability to maintain student-athletes’ safety and well being during practice, play and team travel.
– Ability to drive rental cars and team vans.

Qualifications:

– Three years relevant coaching experience or one to two years assistant coaching experience at the Division I, II, III or junior college level.

Preferred Qualifications:

– Four years of collegiate athletic competition.
– Previous coaching experience at an NCAA member institution preferred.
– Preferred knowledge of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC) members, including travel, opponent’s personnel and strategy, and recruiting areas.
