II. Today’s Tip: Team Building

Best selling author Patrick Lencioni recently released a very interesting book that really applies to coaching called The Advantage. He uses four “Disciplines” of

1. Build a Cohesive Leadership Team

2. Create Clarity

3. Overcommunicate Clarity

4: Reinforce Clarity to make his point.

He follows that with his five “Behaviors” of

1. Building Trust

2. Mastering Conflict

3. Commitment

4. Accountability

5. Results.

  • Maybe my favorite of all your interviews on podcast (so far). Two things really stuck out for me…1. The discussion of keeping balance in a coach’s life and making sure family is kept at the top of priority list. 2. Your statement about being at coaching clinics and being even more interested in a coach talking about philosophy than x-o. GREAT JOB!

Thanks, Coach Dietel! It is easy for all of us to get caught up and lose our priorities if we are not careful. I try remind myself that the proper order should be Faith, Family, (School for the players), then Sport. I would often point out to my players that “Social” comes after all of these. I also look forward to reading your blog as you post more thoughts.
